The 2014 Winter Olympics or the 22nd Winter Olympics will be celebrated on February 7-23 in Sochi, Russia. A total of 98 events in 15 winter sports will be held. The Sochi Organizing Committee (SOC) will organize both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Some few updates about the most anticipated event in sports history are the game venues, mascots, and the calendar of events.
Another addition to the long list of progress for the grand event is the new set of pictograms for the Games. The collection is consisting of 22 icons displaying a figurative representation of the competitions. The symbolic representations are set to appear in the games themselves and will serve as label guides for visitors to their own respective events. They will also appear on tickets, event schedules and other licensed merchandise.
The set of pictograms is inspired by the 1980 Olympics in Moscow game icons but with a creative twist. The minimalist stick figures of the games is combined with bursting colors of blues, reds, greens, and purples. Each design is full of amazing patterns featuring the combination of 16 ornaments from Gzhel to Khokhloma, the most famous national crafts from Russia. Moreover, the set comes in two forms – the colored version and the other collective set which form silhouettes. Let’s take a look at some of the amazing symbols.
