New York Comic Con 2012



Hello creatives! The week is almost over so what’s your plan over the weekend? If you are somewhere in the East coast, a great option is to check out the huge event happening over New York today, the 2012 New York Comic Con (NYCC) at the Javits Center. If you run out of tickets, well that’s sad but cheer up as we give you some useful information and updates from what has been happening over the con for the past two days and what to expect for the last couple of  days. But first, let me give you some background info about NYCC.
Reed Exhibition’s New York Comic Con is the second largest pop culture gathering in the United States dedicated to comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies, and television. It is a for-profit event produced by ReedPOP, a division of Reed Exhibitions and Reed Elsevier and has been active since 2006 and gathered over 105, 0000 attendees at the NYCC 2011. It is not affiliated or connected with the long running non-profit San Diego Comic-Con, nor the MorrisonCon in Las Vegas and the Big Apple Comic-Con.

The NYCC this year which commenced last October 11 until 14 is taking place at the Jacob Javits Center, the con’s home for the past six years of existence. The con features a huge show floor hosting the latest and greatest in both print and multimedia industry. It has panel discussions and autograph sessions giving the fans a chance to interact with their favorite creators. Also, screening rooms are available for featuring a sneak peek at films and television shows months before they hit the screens. The whole convention is a huge marketplace for fans, creators and business players in the entertainment industry.

We’re basically half way through the event so here’s a quick tour on what had happened for the past two days of the con and some prior-to-the-event announcements:

Marvel New York Comic Con 2012 Exclusive Items
Marvel revealed New York Comic Con 2012 Exclusive Items including “Battle of New York” and “Avengers Album” t-shirts, Rocket Raccoon  mug by Joe Quesada, Spider-Man Lithograph, and Avengers VS. X-Men #12 – NYCC 2012 Avengers and X-Men Variants.

On the Superman Panel last October 11, it was revealed that artist and writers Scott Snyder and Jim Lee are teaming up for the new Superman series in 2013.

Dynamite Entertainment announced the first issue of “Bionic Man VS. Bionic Woman”. The action begins on January 2013 featuring the cover designs by Ardian Syaf, Sean Chen,Jonathan Lau, Jack Herbert with interiors by Jose Lui. The series is written by  Keith Champagne.

Annihilator
Legendary Entertainment announced that Grant Morrison would be publishing a brand new graphic novel some time in 2013, ANNIHILATOR. Moreover, it was also announced that the upcoming film Pacific Rim of writer/director Guillermo Del Toro would also be seeing its own graphic novel.

Hasbro revealed new and upcoming items  Marvel toys  based from the characters from the  House of Ideas. Among them were Iron Man 3 items and three new Marvel Legends figures featuring Black Panther, Hawkeye and a White Phoenix. Moreover, Hasbro has also released new images of its KRE-O G.I. Joe building sets.


"Trillium" by Vertigo

Vertigo announced that they will be publishing the miniseries “Trillium” by 2013. It is a new 10-issue limited series to be written and drawn by Jeff Lemire.

Another announcement from the Vertigo panel is that Scott Snyder will team-up with his friend and previous collaborator Sean Murphy on “The Wake“, a new Vertigo miniseries set to debut next year.


New Titles from Marvel

Some of Marvel’s finest like  Mark Waid, Rick Remender, Jason Aaron and Peter David, revealed some details about their upcoming titles at the All New X-Men Panel. New titles from the X-Men Universe, Wolverine and Deadpool were shown.

Marvel NOW! has shared some insights and what’s in store for the new Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk and the Fantastic Four at the ReEvolution panel.

Green Lantern previews featuring the Guardians, The Third Army and Red Lantern
DC gave a sneak peek at Green Lantern New Guardians, Green Lantern Corps Annual and Red Lantern at the “Green Lantern: The Third Army Arrives” panel.

Also, DC Comics revealed the new covers for  Comedian #5, Moloch Issue #1, Nite Owl, Ozymandias and more during the “Before Watchmen” panel.

Other panels and events that happened yesterday include talks like Vertigo’s “A View from the Cutting Edge of Comics“, VALIANT’s “The Future of VALIANT“, “Food in Comics“, “TRON: Uprising“, Walter Simonson and Ridley Scott’s “ALIEN“, “The Psychology of Cosplay“, and more from Archie Comics, The Venture Brothers and The Kubert School.

The last two days of NYCC will be full of interesting panels and events. Saturday will tackle subjects like The Image Comics Experience, Vertical Inc.’s “Moyoco Anno“, an open discussion from ComiXology, DC Comics’ “The New 52“, The Top Cow Universe’s New Era, Marvel NOW!’s “The Avengers“, Stan Lee’s World of Heroes, Vertigo – Fables: 10th Anniversary, Gay Marriage in Comics, The Writers’ Room, Hip Hop and Comics, the official panel of Hellboy in Hell, The Art Of Fiction, Fantasy and Fetish, and a lot more! More topics and interesting talks are scheduled for the last day including “Over 30 Years with Brian & Wendy Froud: Faeries, Goblins and Trolls“, Marvel NOW!’s “Amazing Spider-Man & Beyond“, DC Comics’s “Batman – Death Comes to Gotham“, Women of Marvel and Ultimate Comics, an exclusive talk by Robert Kirkman and more!
