It's another week and it's time again to get your weekly dose of design news from around the globe. This week our topics would revolve around two design contests from two different parts of the world and a nifty gadget that I'm sure will solve one of the most common problems that we face as designers.
First on the list is a bike design contest sponsored by Uncommongoods.com. The contest's deadline for submission of entries will end on September 15, 2012 at 11:59 PM ET. The grand winner will take home $500 cash plus an UncommonGoods vendor contract. Runners up on the other hand will have their designs critiqued by the guest judges and will be provided tips for marketing and selling their design or business. The staff of UncommonGoods may also review the runners up entire portfolio in consideration for future work.
If you want to join this contest, you can submit your entry using their online form. You can use different mediums in creating your design as long as it is environment and animal friendly. Lastly, your designs should also tell a story, be intelligent and should show your individuality. For more details you can visit their website using this link.
Another on-going contest for designers to join is the "Design a Wish for Greece" poster design competition which is sponsored by the Santorini Biennale of Arts and aims to support the image of Modern Greece around the world.
The competition is open to international participants either as a solo participant or in groups of two. Participants can submit up to 5 artworks, but only a maximum of three can be considered as entries to the competition. There will also be a 40 euro registration fee which will be used to print the artworks on posters.
The selected artworks will be exhibited on different dates in 25 cities around the world and public voting will commence once the exhibition has started. Votes will be collected by the Art galleries and the results will be announced on September 30, 2012 in Santorini.
The grand prize winner/winners will receive €1,500; a tour of Greece for 30 days. The second runner up will receive €1,000 plus 20 days tour of Greece while the third runner up will receive €500 and a 10-day tour of Greece. And last but not the least, our last news item for this week is regarding Logitech's K310 keyboard. If you're a designer who likes to drink coffee or any beverage while working, you've probably been one of the victims of the dreaded coffee splash.
Fortunately, Logitech has heard your prayers and gave us the K310 washable keyboard. It is submergible in up to 30cm of water and has convenient drainage holes at the back for speedy drying. The keyboard also has laser printed keys so you don't have to worry about the letters on your keys fading when you're constantly washing it. It also comes with a 3-year limited hardware warranty in case you're not that confident of its water-resistant personality.
